Summary

The client is a multimillion dollar company in the telecommunications industry that urgently required a new hire for the Director, Legal role.

The business had expanded very rapidly across Africa and the middle east and the business was now at a point where the management of the company needed to hire a very sophisticated international legal counsel to advise them on a slew of international acquisitions in several international jurisdictions and a potential listing.

Issue

The Client had tried to fill the role and was considering several candidates, however the
management of the company took a business decision to engage a search firm in order to get
access to a deeper pool of candidates to interview for the role. The client gave clear instructions
that Precisehire should source for candidates that had extensive local professional contacts and an understanding of US securities law. The company initially had some misgivings on whether they would even be able to fill the role. Precisehire assured the Client that it had the expertise, knowledge and international contacts to fill the role with the required candidate.

Resolution

Precisehire worked on this mandate and after using a combination of candidate sourcing methods, we were able to come up with a short list of three candidates that were
introduced to the client. One candidate was based in Nigeria, the other one in the United States, and the last candidate was based in Canada.

The Client expressed satisfaction at the quality of the candidates presented and the depth of the quality of their work experience. Interviews were conducted in Lagos and New York.

The Client eventually hired the candidate based in Nigeria into the role. This candidate had an enormous amount of international experience across several jurisdictions and industries and was the exact fit for the Client’s business in the circumstance.

Placement

Precisehire worked on the closing out of the negotiations with the preferred candidate and after some resolutions of some issues related to the timing of the resumption, we
were able to close on the offer with the Client.

The Client made an offer to the candidate that the candidate accepted. The Client expressed satisfaction that an African search firm had the capabilities to execute and deliver on such a role that was of such strategic importance to the company.
